Respite Care
If you are caring for an aging loved one and you need temporary care assistance, consider a short respite stay. It is the perfect solution when you want to travel, take a needed break from the stresses of caregiving, provide post-hospital care for a loved one, or to experience living at TTP before making a permanent move.
TTP Respite Care programs provide planned, short-term and time-limited breaks for families and other caregivers of adults with a physical or intellectual disability and adults with cognitive loss. Temporary breaks are vitally necessary in order to support and maintain the primary caregiving relationship. Respite care also provides a positive experience for the person receiving care.
Even though many families take great joy in providing care to their loved ones so that they can remain at home, the physical, emotional and financial consequences for the family caregiver can be overwhelming without some support, such as respite care. Respite care provides a break for the family caregiver, which may prove beneficial to the health of that caregiver. Over 60 percent of family caregivers have reported fair or poor health for themselves compared with only 33 percent of non-caregivers.
Respite care has been shown to help sustain family caregiver health and wellbeing, avoid or delay out-of-home placements and reduce the likelihood of abuse or neglect. Respite care may also reduce the likelihood strained marriages.
